Emotional Freedom Techniques (Acupressure for Emotions)
The technique is known as The Emotional Freedom Technique. Acupressure tends to relax you even while we talk about problems. Thus, this often desensitizes your emotional and physical upset, as it is relaxing. Acupressure produces a relaxation reaction, as clients tend to move from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic nervous system. Tap while adding the words about the upset and the upset gets desensitized quickly. (The emotion about the issue).
EFT works on the same principle as acupuncture. In addition to its circulation system and the nerve system, your body has a meridian system. Meridians have been charted and used in Chinese medicine. Each meridian is connected to various parts of the body. An acupuncturist uses tiny needles to stimulate the appropriate meridian for relief of pain and symptoms. EFT allows you to stimulate meridians without the use of needles.
There are two factors that are vital to your success with the technique, being specific about the issue and staying focused on the symptoms throughout the process. This is an eye-opened technique, as you do not want to be meditating on the problem.
While this is cutting-edge in USA, (about 30 years), it is 2000 to 5000 years old in China and Asia, a sister to acupuncture, but no needles. Peer reviewed, published research show this technique cuts cortisol (the stress hormone) 24 % after 30 minutes, making this an evidence-based clinical practice.
Here is a great demo below as an example with Jessica Ortner. 3 Free Tapping Meditations To Release Stress, Anxiety & Anger.
There are four parts to the EFT technique –
• Identify the specific symptoms of the issue and its intensity,
• Set up the issue,
• Tap on the acupressure points,
• Integrate the resolution.
